About Me
How it all started...
I started clowning around in 1984. I was working behind the scenes as a stage and prop helper for a church play. The script called for a magic trick for Simon the Magician to perform so I went to the magic store with my husband (who used to do magic in high school). I found a couple of tricks and enjoyed learning how to do them. My friend who was also working on props for the play told me she had just started "clowning around" and performing at birthday parties and invited me to go to her nephew's party with her. She taught me basics of make-up application and loaned me a costume and I performed at my first party. I LOVED IT! My daughter was in pre-school and one Tuesday I told her teacher that I just started performing as a clown and would she like me to visit the class. She said, "Sure, how about on Thursday." I worked for two days to sew my first clown costume and arrived on Thursday in costume with a magic show in hand. I have been "clowning around" ever since. (see a photo of my first costume below)
Would you like to meet Rainbow or one of her friends?
Over the years I have performed everywhere from nursery schools to nursing homes. I have been in parades, entertained on the Plaza prior to Twins baseball games for five seasons, visited hospitals, attended birthday parties and done clown ministry. My favorite performance is to arrive as Sandy and BECOME Rainbow or one of her friends in front of the audience and then do a magic show followed by balloons and/or face painting.
Three friends and I have performed together since 1984 when we started a clown troupe at our church. T.H.E. Clowns and Friends have performed in churches in Minnesota and Wisconsin and as far away as Russia. T.H.E. is an acronym for The Holy Entertainers. At different times over the years we have had several other group members who ranged in age from 7-80. Now I am the only one who still performs. It was always a great joy to perform with Shari, my BCFF (Best Clown Friend Forever)!
